About This Visa
The Contributory Aged Parent visa pathway includes two stages.
The Subclass 884 visa is a temporary visa valid for up to 2 years, while the Subclass 864 visa offers permanent residency.
Many applicants choose to begin with the 884 visa and then transition to the 864 visa during their stay.
Both visas must be applied for and granted while the applicant is in Australia, making them suitable for parents who are already onshore on a valid visa.
Eligibility Requirements
- To be eligible, applicants must meet the age requirement for the Australian Age Pension and be sponsored by a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen
- They must also pass the Balance of Family Test, which requires that at least half of their children live permanently in Australia, or that more of their children reside in Australia than in any other country
- Applicants must satisfy health and character requirements
- For the permanent Subclass 864 visa, an Assurance of Support (AoS) is also required
- This is a financial undertaking, usually provided by the sponsor, confirming support for a period of 10 years
Key Benefits
