About This Visa
The Carer Visa is a permanent visa that allows individuals to live in Australia to provide ongoing care or support to a relative who has a long-term medical condition.
This visa is intended for situations where the required care cannot be reasonably provided by other family members or through Australian health or community services.
There are two visa options depending on where the application is made.
The Subclass 116 visa is for applicants applying from outside Australia, while the Subclass 836 visa is for those applying from within Australia.
Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a Carer Visa, the applicant must be willing and capable of providing continuous and significant care to the person in need

They must also be sponsored by an eligible relative in Australia
- The person requiring care must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen

They must have a permanent medical condition that results in a functional impairment and demonstrate that they do not have reasonable access to care from other relatives or available services in Australia

As part of the process, an independent medical assessment is conducted through Bupa Medical Visa Services to confirm the level of care required
