Travel Conditions

A Bridging Visa B (Subclass 020) allows the visa holder to remain lawfully in Australia while their substantive visa application is being processed and provides permission to travel overseas and return to Australia within an approved travel period. The visa holder must obtain the Bridging Visa B before departing Australia, as leaving Australia while holding only a Bridging Visa A may result in that visa ceasing. The holder must return to Australia before the expiry of the travel facility specified in the Bridging Visa B grant notice. The visa conditions, including work rights and study rights, generally remain the same as the applicant’s existing bridging visa conditions.

Important Notes

A Bridging Visa B cannot be extended once granted. If further travel is required after the approved travel period, a new Bridging Visa B application must be lodged while the applicant is in Australia. Applicants are advised not to make non-refundable travel arrangements until the visa has been granted. It is important to ensure that the passport remains valid for the entire duration of travel and to carry copies of the Bridging Visa B grant notice and related visa application documents while travelling. Failure to return to Australia before the travel facility expires may affect the applicant’s ability to re-enter Australia.
