About National Innovation Visa
The National Innovation Visa, formerly the Global Talent visa, is a permanent residency pathway introduced on 7 December 2024.
It is designed for individuals who have reached the top of their field globally, including highly skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, creative and elite athletes.
The visa recognizes people whose exceptional achievements can contribute significantly to Australia’s innovation, economy and future growth.
The availability of places under the program is limited by an annual quota set for each financial year.
As a result, competition is high.
Priority is given to applications that are complete and ready for decision at the time of lodgment.
Once an invitation is issued, applicants must submit their full visa application within 60 days.

Applicants must also be nominated by an eligible Australian citizen, permanent resident or recognized organization

A formal Expression of Interest is submitted through ImmiAccount

Selected candidates receive an invitation to apply, typically valid for 60 days

Additional requirements include meeting health and character standards

Applicants must also demonstrate that they are at or above the Fair Work High Income Threshold, which is updated annually

Supporting evidence such as media coverage, keynote speaking roles, leadership positions, research funding, or commercial achievements is also required to strengthen the application
