About This Visa

The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) is designed for international students who have recently completed their studies in Australia.

It allows graduates to remain in the country temporarily to gain valuable work experience, further develop their skills, or undertake professional training after finishing an eligible qualification.

From 1 July 2024, the visa has been structured into more defined streams to provide clearer pathways and improved access for applicants.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Temporary Graduate Visa, applicants must generally be under 35 years of age
However, exceptions apply for Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport holders, as well as applicants who have completed a Master’s by research or a PhD, who may be eligible up to 50 years of age
Applicants must have held an eligible student visa within the last six months and must have successfully completed a CRICOS-registered course in Australia
In addition, they are required to meet English language proficiency standards, satisfy health and character requirements, and maintain appropriate health insurance for the duration of their stay
An Australian Federal Police (AFP) clearance is also required
It is important to note that applicants must choose the correct stream at the time of application, as switching streams after submission is not permitted
