About This Visa

The Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870) allows parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to stay in Australia for longer periods on a temporary basis.

This visa is designed for parents who want to spend extended time with their children or grandchildren in Australia without applying for permanent residency.

Parents can stay for either 3 or 5 years per visa grant, with the possibility of applying again, provided the total stay does not exceed 10 years.

This visa does not require applicants to meet the Balance of Family Test. However, applicants must have an approved sponsor, maintain adequate health insurance, and are not permitted to work while in Australia on this visa.
