The partner visa allows the partner or spouse of an Australian citizen or permanent resident to live in Australia.
This Visa is granted in two stages :
Stage 1 – Temporary Visa (Subclass 820 or 309) : This is the initial visa granted. It allows you to stay in (or enter) Australia while your permanent visa is being assessed.
Stage 2 – Permanent Visa (Subclass 801 or 100): Around two years after lodging your application, you may become eligible for permanent residency, provided your relationship is still ongoing.
In certain cases, such as family or domestic violence, applicants may still proceed even if the relationship has ended.
